Kenya’s Veronica Mueni Nduva is EAC’s first female Secretary General.
She took the oath of office last week (7th June 2024) at the State House in Juba, Republic of South Sudan.
With a solid commitment to social development, Nduva has set her sights on empowering our society's and youth's backbone.

She has articulated a clear vision for her tenure to promote deeper integration and development of the people of East Africa. This ambitious goal will ignite a sense of optimism and excitement among the region's citizens.

Nduva replaces Dr. Peter Mutuku Mathuki, who was recalled by Kenya in March 2024 and redeployed as the country’s Ambassador to Moscow. 
 

Before she was appointed SG, Nduva was the principal secretary of the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

With a distinguished 24-year career in governance and the public sector, Nduva brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her extensive background, including her service in various capacities in the Government of Kenya, EAC, the US government, and civil society, instils confidence in her ability to lead the EAC. 

She holds a BA in Political Science and Communication Studies from UoN and has vast experience in Human Resource Management and budgetary appropriations.
