KIGALI—MTN Rwanda is set for a significant leadership shift as Ali Monzer officially assumes the role of CEO on April 22, 2025, following the departure of outgoing CEO Mapula Bodibe. Monzer brings a wealth of industry experience and is expected to steer the telecom giant into its next phase of growth and digital innovation.

Bodibe, who took over the leadership of MTN Rwanda in September 2022, leaves behind a legacy of transformative leadership. Her tenure was marked by key achievements, most notably securing a 4G license in July 2023, which enabled MTN to reach 84.5% population coverage in less than a year. She also oversaw Rwanda’s first live 5G network demonstration during the Mobile World Congress Africa held in Kigali, further elevating the country’s position as a digital hub in the region.

Beyond her strides in connectivity and innovation, Bodibe championed MTN Rwanda’s corporate social responsibility efforts, notably partnering with UNICEF Rwanda to tackle child malnutrition and improve digital access for underserved communities. As she steps down, Monzer inherits a company with a 62% market share and nearly 7 million subscribers. However, he will face the task of sustaining this momentum amid rising competition. His mandate includes driving further innovation, strengthening MTN’s market leadership, and deepening the brand’s social impact across Rwanda’s evolving telecommunications landscape.
